After more than three decades involved in Gann research, I never cease to be amazed when I meet someone new who has so closely followed a similar path to myself and other Baumring students, yet without ever having met. I suppose this only goes to show that those most serious about their pursuit of market research, eventually discover and end up working on a small grouping of key subjects that reside nearest to the center of the logic diagram that explains the Gann and similar such technical analysis.
Obvious subjects near to the center would include vibration, harmonics, astronomy, time cycles, astrology, sacred geometry, numerology, and the like, but those are not quite what I mean. They are sort of “common subjects” in Gann study that most people assume will lead them to the answer. Some of these will do so more than others, some faster, some slower, some only partially, leading to a usual integration of as much as can be accomplished by any individual researcher.
However, there are other subjects which are more refined and focused than these broad general categories, and it is these lesser known subjects that lie nearest to the center. Yet these topics, while refined and focused, simultaneously break the limitations of generalized categorization by requiring facets from each for a proper and thorough understanding.
Pendulum motion is such a subject. It is a study that has remained deeply occulted by the snazzier and sexier fields listed above. It is something that physicists and engineers might study for some practical purposes, but which most market researchers would be less inclined to put their attention upon rather than on astrology or numerology which sound more exciting and exotic. Pendulum motion is generally not a subject that would stir excitement in most people, unless you are a fan of Walter Russell, Edson Gould, Itzhak Bentov or W.D. Gann.
These geniuses all saw something more extraordinary in Pendulum Motion. Indeed, they saw something so great, that they created entire cosmological systems based upon its principle and function, showing us that this may be something that is far more than just a field of study or research, but actually could be a core function or mechanism behind nature and the universe itself. This is what I mean by a subtler principle, something more dominant and ubiquitous behind all things, informing the form and their function.
In my experience, it is these subtler of conceptual fields which lie nearest the center that provoke the most inspired and visionary discovery and insight, such that when I hear certain key words, I perk up...
Mysterious sounding subjects like: hyperdimensional aether physics, space/time field forces, plasma physics, Platonic cosmology, the Electric Universe, multidimensional energetic grid systems, solar/geomagnetic force propagation, toroidal physics and vortex systems, morphogenetic fields and other goodies like this are kind of key words that make me pay attention. Pendulum Motion is one such key word I perk up for.
These are the realms where the real secrets lie and where the future research will lead into new fields of science, as we translate those “obvious subjects” like astrology and numerology into more scientific explanations, eventually envisioning a conceptual or even physical model with working parts and calculated motions, that we can experiment upon to further refine our theories.
As our model begins to develop, these long studied, esoteric, astronumerological prestidigitations turn out to be nothing but the internal relationships between the wheels and branches of this living, growing mechanism. This mechanism, or perhaps it is even an organism, which twists, turns, spirals, vibrates and grows itself through the mental/etheric fields of mass consciousness, thought-form energy, which we call ‘financial markets.’
Pendulum Motion is one of those secret subjects that stands out against the more generalized categories as being an ideal model of market phenomena. Someone familiar with pendulum motion has an insight into the working functions of the actual mechanics of the market that presents a real physical and mathematical model that can be proven to be operating behind market action.
Such explorations and modeling lead to a vision of the market as a sort of living breathing thing, the pendulum being the ever-beating heart rate, the constant in-and-out motion of the breath as the lungs expand and contract. This is all pendulum motion. Every object and organism in the universe pulsates and vibrates with the dualistic rhythm of pendulum motion. It IS a universal principle, hence serves as an ideal model for market action.
Ultimately, such mental modeling leads to a point where the analyst really begins to ask seriously, “WHAT IS THE MARKET?” Have you ever really thought about it? Most have not! But this was the first kind of question that we were taught to ask when studying with Dr. Baumring.
Edson Gould, writing under his middle "pen" name, Edson "Beerrs" (Gould), was the first reference that Baumring provided us on Pendulum Motion and Dynamic Symmetry, in his Gann 3 Seminar Manual. It provides the first clear hint of what the "action" of the market might actually be.
In the following excerpt from Beers/Gould's brief but intriguiging series of two articles in BARRONS, from way back in 1937 and 1941 is asking the same question, “What is the true nature of the market?” (Interestingly, Edson was a very close friend and confidant of Muriel Hasbrouck!) We'll let Edson say it in his own words...
A New Idea for Speculators
Applying the Principles of "Dynamic Symmetry" to the Stock Market (Excerpt)
By EDSON BEERS (BARRON'S National Financial Weekly, May 19, 1941)
What is the true nature of the market?
It is simply this. The stock market is a living thing, a vital entity, a living, pulsating, vibrant organism. It responds to the laws of growth, development and enfoldment as accurately, as faithfully, as certainly as any organic matter. The same principles that govern the growth of plants, trees, beasts and men rule the stock market. The same laws that govern growth, motion, electricity and musical sounds apply to the stock market and other phenomena rooted in mass attitudes and actions.
We have at hand a large body of information, knowledge, principles and law that we can bring to bear on our problem. We do not have to start from scratch and slowly and painfully build up, assort, analyze, study and weigh our data and evidence. Motion is still motion whether it is in a planet, an electron, a train, the price of a stock or commodity, or the rise or fall of a public idea. Forces may be no more than mental concepts, but they are quite as useful, quite as measurable, qualitatively, quantitatively and directionally, in markets and other social phenomena as in the physical fields of light, heat, electricity and sound.
The problem of the markets is primarily mathematical. This must be so for the principles that govern physical phenomena, the laws of motion and those of biology can be expressed mathematically. Every created thing carries its own mathematics along with it. In other words, all things respond to the laws of their species.
The stock market moves in accordance with its own set of laws: business activity responds to its set of laws; credit conditions are governed by their own laws; electrons, atoms, molecules, individuals, families, nations, the world, the solar system, the universe, all are and move because of perfectly definite, in many cases mathematically demonstrable laws.
The stock market is the resultant of many forces, but there are three dominant: A constant push downward (gravitational), a steady push to the right (time), and a variable force upward (manifestation of the will to buy - psychological). Since the first is a constant, the laws governing the second and third forces will suffice - laws of time and laws of mass psychology.
Think of the market as an electrical current following the line of least resistance through a magnetic field created by points of energy generation spread regularly in the plane of time and price; each point sends out periodic waves as when pebbles are successfully thrown into water. Where the waves cross, symmetrical (static as well as dynamic) patterns are formed and the market flows in these patterns.
The result is the same as would be caused by a collection of pendulums swinging up and down along the price scale. The pendulums vary in amplitude (the distance traveled in one stroke), vary in period (the time required for a complete cycle), and vary in the angle at which they swing (not all swing perpendicular to a horizontal price line - that is, why the market comes down faster than it goes up). This may sound pretty complicated, but you will find the concept relatively simple and thoroughly practicable once you put it to use.

What IS IT? I gave a hint of my inner vision of it earlier, a sort of mass thought-form created by the mass consciousness focused upon any product, whether physical or intellectual derivative, by every single being who follows, trades or thinks about it.
This mass though or conscious energy is the force in itself which is the engine behind the market. And that mental engine is driven by many factors that go into the yes/no, buy/sell decisions that make up the dualistic pendulum activity, economic factors, weather, space weather, solar influences, planetary influences, long term cycles, all these things which affect the human mental force or physical environment behind the markets.
So, what might be the primary dualistic forces which govern markets? Supply & Demand? Hope & Fear? Do we need more? There are at least two fundamental swings for physical products, it’s the availability and the buyer’s need. It only takes two cycles to generate a complex phenomenon like the market. One wheel revolving around another is a complex enough function to create everything we see on the charts, with multiple iterations like in Fractal Geometry.
When one seeks as deeply as possible for the ‘ghost in the machine’, the closest I’ve come to seeing this ‘beast’ in the markets is the perception of its motion and action, and the trail of its shell. The one principle that best models exactly this kind of action and behavior is PENDULUM MOTION!
Pendulum motion is the function, the action, the motion, the engine and life force of the markets that provides the wiggles that leave behind the shells we call charts.
If we were to seek one core conceptual model to hold so as to envision the action/being of the markets, Pendulum Motion falls more closely to the center of the puzzle behind the markets than any other model or conceptual framework that I’ve seen.
The mathematics of growth forms and factors has many times been shown to exist in the structure of the financial markets. If you have not seen it demonstrated, explore this website where many such demonstrations and explanations are provided. But even better, you will discover it in this series of books, something that has been understood only by few and far between… Gann… Gould… Garrett… Baumring… Straker… a good 2-3 decades between each.
Pendulum motion seems to potentially be the model behind Gann’s first conceptualization of the market and his Law of Vibration as presented in the Ticker Interview in 1909. Gann does not say it in outrightly, but the trail he leaves and examples he uses are all deeply related to the same central principles. This consideration is the subject of Book 2, Golden Speed: The Geometry of the Square, which is where Straker has extended his original insight beyond the Circular Scaling and Pendulum Motion laid out in Book 1, into the Square Scaling and geometrical system so well known, but little understood, of Gann’s. Book 2 takes Gann Theory and moves it to a new and deeper level of understanding and application through the integration of growth forms, pendulum motion, seed vectors, and advanced scaling methodologies through which the real work is revealed.
Very few have understood what Gann was doing and how he used these ideas, but Alex is unquestionable one that has reached a very high level of insight in this work that few others have obtained. I expected that these laws and tools were the foundation of market action, since I studied it closely with Dr. Baumring. But Baumring was never able to provide us with the details and steps to allow us to translate it from the theoretical principles to a market application that really works!
Alex has accomplished that where so many other of us have failed. Taking that tangible leap is a challenging and complex step that very few accomplish, but Alex has managed it, and even better, he has explained, in clear detail, exactly how it works, and how it underlies the best of Gann’s work as well.

Now that you’ve had a basic introduction to this Series and the basic courses and material, we wanted to let the author himself speak, sharing his history with trading and the markets which led to his career and experience as a professional financial planner with multi-million dollar responsibilities. Straker can give you a quicker and more direct impression of who he is and what his work is like than we can, while also providing you with a feeling for his style, approach and general competence. As such, we suggest you begin by reading the Author’s Biography to learn more about Straker, his history leading to these courses.
You will find a longer and more detailed explanation of Pendulum Motion and what is in it under the General Overview where the author has described the book material from his perspective. The Course Contents shows the sections and chapters of the book.
Once you have a sense of the author and the work, continue on to the How the Tools Work section where Straker presents a detailed explanation of the tools and techniques taught in Pendulum Motion. This explanation is illustrated with a sequence of charts showing the actual application of the general principles and techniques that are taught in the book showing exactly how they work. Then the Market Examples page shows a number of charts Straker has presented as further examples of the application of the tools in current markets creating tradable setups.
We has also posted 2 Traders World Articles written by Straker which you can read here, as well as a Track Record for his trading fund for the last year. We are compiling a number of other chart setups, forecasts and trades that Alex sent to us over the last year to verify trades, which we will continue to add to over time.
Further, we have posted 2 Articles by Edson Beers Gould from 1937 and 1941 Barron’s on Pendulum Motion. Beers (Gould) was really the only other of the old Master to discuss this topic, so his references, discovered by Baumring in the 1980’s are critical references for this field of study.
Golden Speed:
Most of the prior information is addressing Book 1. For more information on Gann Analysis, see the detailed write-up for Book 2, Golden Speed: The Geometry of the Square for the full writeup on what is in that book. You can find the Golden Speed Contents here. When we complete our edit of Book 2 and release the Print Edition, we will also post more supporting information, but for now, these two sections are all we have…
Lastly, a wonderful resource that all should know, the Ticker Interview published in December 2009, 110 years exactly to the release of Pendulum Motion, provides some further information (more hints than well-defined concepts!), about pendulum motion in the original words of Gann. This will help to give a sense of the background to what inspired Straker (and many others!) to deeply explore such concepts, and a sense of how Gann thought of these tools.
The author has agreed to monitor an Online Research & Trading Forum for this course. The Forum will be the equivalent of a classroom where the author will help readers to clarify and apply the analytical and trading techniques presented in the course. We want to assure that no detail is left out and that the material is fully comprehensible and applicable by everybody, so we feel it is important for students to have access to the author to clarify any issues or answer any questions they may have.
It will also be a place where readers can discuss their analysis of the markets or engage in expanded research upon deeper theoretical topics in the book. Alex has some new areas of research particularly regarding his Straker Golden Mean Cycle and his advanced work which leads directly into some very interesting areas of esoteric discussion and practical concepts in the market.
A good market geometry software package is ideal and Straker recommends Optuma, Wave59 and Timing Solution as being well suited. Many custom programmed tools for Wave59 are available now for this work, and Straker has previously been engaged by Sergey from Timing Solution to help design the Precise Charting module that suits this kind of geometric charting perfectly. Straker’s core tools have been pre-programmed for Wave59 and are available only to course owners. We are also looking into have a module programmed for Optuma. There is a one-off purchase from the tool programmer for the module kit for Wave59.
Wave59 can be subscribed to for the very reasonable cost of $100 a month, and we are finalizing some special deals with Wave59 for SSI customers, so please inquire directly and we will provide you with full information. If you are anxious and want to have a peek at Wave59 now, please use the following link which is required to receive the special offers for customers: Click here for Wave59 subscription information. If you are interested in Timing Solution, please contact us for further details.

The Geometry of the Square - Book 2 of The Universal Golden Keys Series
490 Pages
1st Edition
£4,500.00 (New Hardcover)
Discount Price: £2,995.00 EQUINOX SPECIAL! Book 2 of The Universal Golden Keys Series Golden Speed presents a whole new way to view Gann’s geometric work, beginning from principles of the root sciences involved. In Straker’s view these are the true roots of the ‘craft’ of Gann analysis. The goal is to present this with a clarity, elegance and practicality rarely seen in Gann explanations, while clearly tying Gann’s work to the Golden Mean. Straker provides evidence proving that the Golden Mean is crucial in achieving Gann’s price-time squaring.
