The following review of Dan Ferrera’s Gann Pyramid, Square Of Nine Basics was published in the April 20, 2001 issue of Stock Cycles Forecast, by Michael Jenkins. For more information on Stock Cycles Forecast, please see: stockcyclesforecast.com.
In the past 17 years of writing the Stock Cycles Forecast newsletter I've reviewed three products that were worthy of purchase and now I will recommend a fourth.
One of my trading friends, Daniel Ferrera who is a qualified "Gannophile" and has studied W.D. Gann in earnest, has just written a very comprehensive course on the use of the Square of Nine, an example of which is shown above. All Gann courses have the Square of Nine prominently featured but very few of the authors I know of actually know how to use it. Those who do make sizable amounts of money in the market from it and I use it every day in my own trading and in picking the stocks for my telephone hotwire each night. Without writing a book myself describing its function I will say it is a number wheel that shows support and resistance in both terms of time and price. The numbers spiral around the first square of the nine digits and going down the left hand diagonal are the squares of the odd numbers and up and to the right are the even numbers squared.
In both of my books I have shown many examples of how the odd number squares in weeks (9, 25,49, 81,121, etc.) often show all the highs and lows in a stock charts history. What the Square of Nine does is define these square relationships for any set of numbers that fall along the same line and if you circle on the chart the major highs and lows of a stock you are following you will see all the support and resistance levels the stock trades off of, and they are usually all in a row or at 90 degree angles.
What you don't always notice is the time relationship that tells you exactly what date to expect a specific price to be hit. This wheel does that and it is the whole key as to why Gann made so much money in the markets. In my books I show the simple technique of finding the numbers in the wheel by taking the square root of a number and adding 2 to that root and re-squaring it to find the next number out. In other words on the odd squares angle the square root of 9 is 3 and 2 added to that gives 5 which squared is 25 the next number in sequence and so the odd squares are all along the same axis. But so too are all others on the chart like 53 which is located near "9 o'clock" on the wheel.
Take the square root of that and add 2 and resquare and you get the next number out or 86. Similarly, if you add 2 to the square root and get the number all the way around the circle, if you add I to the root and resquare you'll get the number on the opposite side of the circle. Add .25 and you get a 45 degree angle away, add .50 to the root and you get a 90 degree resistance point. Take any number in the chart as a price high or low and the other numbers on that line are the calendar days later you will see a change in trend for that stock or commodity. This little known secret works all the time and is worth millions.
Anyway I don't have the time here to explain all of it but will show two examples below. If you area serious market student and you will work and take the time to plan to make money then you should buy this course. It's not for everyone but any serious market student could learn a lot from it that would repay the purchase price many times over.
By the way Dan demonstrates not only how to find stock and market highs and lows and their selling levels but also shows how when in combination with a starting point like the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776, all figures Wars in the U.S. have come out on the same or similar angles on this wheel as well as all deaths and assassinations of U.S. Presidents!
There is much more but you should check it out. It costs $300 and is available from Sacred Science at 800 756-6141 (Square of Nine Basics by Daniel T. Ferrera).
