Swing trading was the technique that Gann himself first taught to all of his students. It is a mechanical process of trading each sequential swing in any market, using technical analysis to identify when the swings are topping or bottoming and changing directions. It teaches the mechanics of trading, the discipline of analysis and decision making, and the foundations of reading market swings and energy. This is what is considered to be the foundation of trading an individual market and should be studied by every trader.
Dr. Baumring told his students that if they just wanted to make money, they should study risk management and options trading, and then find a good swing trading system. He recommended Dunnigan’s One-Way Formula and Jackson’s I-S Method, listed below as swing trading systems. Gann himself has a collection of his own swing trading courses and mechanical indicators in Volume 5 of our collection of Gann Courses, and Tim Walker wrote an excellent analysis of Gann’s method in his How to Trade Like W. D. Gann.
Prandelli’s Polarity Factor System is another excellent swing trading system that uses Gann’s Master Time Factor to create a yearly cycle model for each market to identify the swing turns. It then uses Planetary Longitude Lines to define price levels, and combines the into a brilliant and effective swing trading system. Prandelli also has a Yearly PFS Forecast Bulletin which provides swing traders with his analysis across a number of markets.
Finally, we have a number of excellent works on technical analysis which provide invaluable tools for identifying the turns, levels and trends of the markets, critical for identifying the swings and their turns and for knowing when and where the reversals will take place. Pancholi’s Market Timing Report is also quite effective at identifying the short term weekly swings in key markets which provide valuable timing signals for swing traders.
